October Favourites | Back to Basics

Hey Gorgeous Readers!

Life has been pretty tumultuous lately so my October favourites have really just been about getting back to basics.

I've been wanting Frends headphones forever, but I haven't been able to justify a couple hundred dollars on headphones (sidenote have you seen the Dolce&Gabbana collection?!) and since I never lose my headphones I've just always used the ones that came with my first iPhone. However, I was at Target and decided to get the pink ones above because they were pink and only $5 (really.) and I think they're cute even if they're not rose gold.

Since it's getting colder lately I've been needing more lotion. I've been reaching for my Bath&Body Works Strawberry and Vanilla souffle since I like this consistency more than their other lotions. It's not the most moisturizing for super dry skin, but until I find one this is my favourite.

I started wearing my geeky glasses more often this past month too. I think they look super cute with my cozy sweaters.

October was also my birthday month so I got my gift from Sephora which was a set of Nars satin lip pencils. I've been using Rikugien because it's a nice pink nude; the other in the set was a little dark for me.

Along with my nude lip colour I have gone back to my first Naked palette after using Naked3 more in the summer. The neutral colours are just really great for work which is where I spend the most time at lately..

I also had to switch my foundation to CoverGirl Ready Set Gorgeous because after struggling to find my shade of E.L.F the last two times I needed a new bottle I decided to change it up. I think Covergirl's is actually a nicer finish and smells better too so I'm glad I couldn't find my E.L.F shade now.

Along with birthday gifts, I got a bottle of Stress-Fix composition oil from Aveda and while I was in the store I decided to pick up the concentrate roller ball version of it too. Aroma therapy was desperately needed this month and the roller ball is great to keep in my bag. It has a more emotional effect than the blue oil which I also think is holy grail (if you have a migraine, blue oil will cure it in seconds).

Finally I have been wearing my wedge sneakers- like in my #OOTD last week- because I hadn't been all summer. They're just a bad idea if you're taking a large dog for a walk or need to get in and out of the house without letting them follow. I think they're also one of my new power pieces in my closet (I might share a list of my power pieces soon).

Stay Fabulous,
xoxo Aimee

Hello November | #OOTD

Hey Readers!

October kinda sucked.. but it's finally November! So Starbucks' red cups and Gingerbread Lattes are back today, Thanksgiving (and most importantly Black Friday) are around the corner, and winter jackets are out of the closet.

Since we are well past Labour Day I decided to wear white haha. While no one follows the white after Labour day rule anymore, this article by Dan Fallon was really great at explaining some of the rule's origins. Here in Wisconsin our autumn weather was really all over the place, from being too warm for sweaters or super rainy, but now we have given up on autumn weather and are getting straight to winter (we already had snow in the weather report.. good thing they're always wrong).
First of the year! and you thought I was obsessed with #PSL...

I've been wearing those glasses a ton lately!

In Fashion News

Raf Simons has left Dior and Alber Elbaz has left Lanvin. There's been a lot of speculation over the reasons Alber Elbaz has left and the reasons it seems like the creative director position in fashion industry has been having such quick turn around.

Did you know?

I have been hearing about L'Oreal a lot lately because they used to own Lanvin and beauty gurus like to compare their cosmetics to Armani's beauty line because they currently own them too. So I decided to look up the full list of companies that L'Oreal owns because personally my first thoughts of L'Oreal are that they have great drugstore makeup.

and they own a lot of companies..
Lancome, Giorgio Armani Beauty, Yves Saint Laurent, Biotherm, Kiehls, Ralph Laurent fragrance, Shu Uemura, Viktor&Rolf, Cacharel, Helena Rubinstein, Clarisonic, Diesel, Martin Margiela, Yue Sai, Urban Decay, Guy Laroche, Paloma Picasso, Proenza Schouler, Garnier, Maybelline, NYX, Softsheen Carson, Essie, Decleor, Vichy, La Roche-Posay, Skin Ceuticals, Roger&Gallet, Son of Lore, and the Body Shop.

Stay Fabulous,

Moody Autumn #OOTD

I'm sorry I left without saying. The cracks in the pavement lead back to me baby.

Hey Gorgeous Readers!

So it's been awhile again. I've been meeting and learning some more about social media and web design from some really amazing people in marketing the last couple months though. A combination of their inspiration, it being my favourite type of weather out, and having a morning off has motivated me to get back to work here at Bows&Beau-ties.

A quick rundown of the FW15 trends- interior design influence, touches of fur, neo Victorian, lingerie, the 80s, the 70s patchwork and fringe, velvet, capes, athleisure, pleats, statement shoes- especially with pom poms, gypsy, exaggerated silhouettes, ribbed knitwear (like my sweater! :)) dark/gothic, monochromatic.

Channeling Alexander Wang and Fendi's collections I went with a darker/gothic monochromatic look. It seemed fitting for the overcast day and mood (to say the last couple weeks have been rough would be an understatement).

Ps. Here's what I've been listening to lately. The quote in the cover photo is from "Dug my Heart."
